of the Research Foundation of the State University of New York
which is a private nonprofit corporation. In this position you
will serve at the pleasure of the Research Foundation, subject to
the policies of the Research Foundation of the State University of
New York. The effective date(s) and salary of your appointment are
noted on the attached form.

We urge that you attend a Research Foundation employee fringe
benefit orientation program. This program is designed to explain
your new benefits and assist you in filling out the enrollment
forms. The orientation is held on alternate Mondays, immediately
following Research Foundation pay days.

If for some reason you are unable to attend this orientation
session, you must complete and return all required forms to the
Office of Personnel. The fringe benefit packets containing this
information and forms are available in the office of your Project
Director and/or Department Head. You should review this material
and return the completed forms immediately to the Benefits Section,
Office of Personnel, Room 387, in the Administration Building.

Dear Dr. Gasparik:

I am very pleased to offer to you, subject to approval by the President,
an appointment as Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth
and Space Sciences at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.
This would be a temporary appointment to an unsalaried position of
qualified academic rank, subject to the Policies of the Board of Trustees
governing such appointments. It would be effective January 2, 1986.

If you wish to accept this appointment, please sign and date the endorsement
on the enclosed copy of this letter and return that copy to me as
soon as possible. I also enclose a statement that must be executed prior

Subject Position Description for T. Gasparik
Date 19 March 1985

This position is for a post-doctoral research associate in the mineral physics
group. Dr. Gasparik will be responsible for the installation, calibration,
and supervision of experimental projects on the new high-pressure apparatus
currently being obtained for the new Mineral Physics High Pressure Laboratory.
This position is supported by SUNY at Stony Brook (under account 431-9205A)
and by the NSF (under account 431-2333A). The appointment is initially for
one year with a commitment to extend to 2 years pending satisfactory performance.
